Amtico Installation

From preparation stages to final finishing, let us take you through the Amtico installation process.

Amtico Luxury Vinyl Tiles Installation

Once we have prepared your subfloor and it is ready for Amtico/LVT installation we will need to measure around and set out marks on the floor so that we have a guide to work to.

We will always strive to set the floor out in a way which will leave even cuts against walls etc however this will depend on the shape of your space and how many twists and turns there are around the perimeter. It is not always possible to create even cuts everywhere so in this case we will make sure that the most visible focal points such as through a kitchen or hallway or around a fire place etc looks symmetrical.

Setting out Amtico

Once the layout is confirmed, we apply adhesive and lay Amtico/LVT flooring. For tricky areas like kitchen islands, we may use a dry fitting technique instead of adhesive. We use a high temperature adhesive that allows for adjustments before glueing and allows us to take up the flooring in sections and fit it back into wet adhesive. We use high temperature adhesive for underfloor heating, in conservatories, and in south-facing or sunlit areas.

Underfloor heating

Underfloor heating must be switched off for at least 24 hours before, during and after prep and installation. If there is too much sunlight on the floor, we will use template paper to cover the glass until the adhesive sets. During the prep stages, we will deliver the Amtico/LVT to allow it to acclimatise to the temperature of the property.

Simple installations

In the case of a simple shaped room with no UFH or sunlight then we might use Solvent Free Acrylic or Pressure Sensitive adhesive. In this instance we would spread the adhesive over the floor and allow it to cure enough to become tacky before installing the Amtico/LVT into it.

Amtico installation

During installation, each piece of Amtico/LVT is placed into position and pressure is applied by hand over the entire piece to ensure the adhesive has transferred onto both surfaces. At then end of each installation process we roll over the entire floor with a small roller to ensure the whole floor has been pressed into the adhesive.

Creating borders

When installing borders, our process involves the marking of the border size around the perimeter of the room with a pencil line. We then proceed to install the main floor area with an overlap over the pencil mark. A straightedge is used to cut off the excess, ensuring crisp and straight lines. The edges of the main floor are then bevelled by hand using a special tool to attain a uniform factory finish, similar to the edges of uncut pieces of tile or plank. We meticulously scribe in the border by hand to accomplish the desired design.
